Geographic Coordinate Data Base Monument Retrieval and Collection
Client: Premier Data Services
As a continuation of our Teaming Agreement with Premier Data Services we have completed an important update to the existing Geographic Coordinate Data Base of the Bureau of Land Management. Starting in February of 2010, High Mesa Consulting Group has worked closely with the Albuquerque office of Premier Data Services to recover and catalog existing Public Land Survey System monumentation throughout the State of New Mexico. The project involved coordinating BLM documentation, available topographic mapping and satellite imagery to determine legacy positions to aid in monument retrieval. Field crews attempted to gain access to the selected positions in order to perform a ground search for the monument or an alternate within a client specified radius. Once points were recovered they were then occupied with DGPS equipment and data was collected for post processing by Premier Data Services. Photographs were taken and field sketches of the recovered monuments were compiled for positive identification and cataloging the condition of each monument. This information was then provided to Premier Data Services for implementation into the Geographic Coordinate Data Base. This information will provide the Bureau of Land Management with an accurate inventory of the existing monumentation and its current condition.
