APS Volcano Vista High School and Northwest Education Corridor at Ancient Mesa
Public High School , Middle School, Regional Park, and Elementary School.
This Project was performed by High Mesa Consulting Group directly for Albuquerque Public Schools as a part of our on-call contract. The project began as a site search for a new High School to be located on the west side of Albuquerque to help ease the overcrowding caused by residential development and provide for future growth in the area. A suitable site was identified in the possession of the State Land Office, and negotiated to be purchased by the district. The size of the parcel and its location along the Town of Alameda Grant Line required High Mesa Consulting Group surveyors to recover original monumentation from the US Government surveys for the Public Land Survey System. The section and the land grant line were then retraced, resolved and our surveys identified an appropriate site. A platting action creating this tract and the property to be retained by the State Land Office was prepared by our firm. High Mesa Consulting Group obtained approval from the local government entities having jurisdiction over the property. Once these tasks were completed, High Mesa Consulting Group coordinated with UNM Archaeologists to identify and locate areas that were determined to be culturally sensitive. These areas were identified to the district and the City of Albuquerque so that future construction would not cause a disturbance. High Mesa Consulting Group then provided a topographic map of the site from which a school site and infrastructure were designed and approved. Infrastructure improvements are currently being staked and administered by High Mesa Consulting Group staff. This project is currently in the second phase of design. It will ultimately include the construction of an elementary school and regional park on the adjacent parcel. Additional access roads and infrastructure are being designed, staked and administered for the site by High Mesa Consulting Group on behalf of the District. Construction will commence immediately following approval by the Board of Education and Albuquerque Public Schools Facilities Design and Construction Office.
