APS Next-Gen Academy and Del Norte High School Reconstruction

Public High Schools

This ongoing project includes 3 Phases of new infill building construction and site reconstruction at an existing public high school.  The first Phase, completed in October, 2010, was the stand-alone Next-Gen Academy High School building, parking, utility, and pedestrian access improvements.  Phase 2 construction started in June of 2010 and includes a new Media Center and Classroom Building with associated site parking, circulation, access, and ADA improvements, as well as renovations to existing buildings.  Phase 3 design services kicked off in October, 2010 and this final phase will include phased construction of a new stand-alone industrial arts building, a new cafeteria building addition, and extensive site circulation, parking, utility, and drainage improvements.  This phase will culminate with construction of a new soccer field in the center of the campus.

High Mesa Consulting Group  (HMCG) has performed a wide variety of design and construction phase engineering, surveying and planning services for the project.  As part of the Project Architect's design team, HMCG is providing civil engineering services including phased construction drawings for grading and drainage, paving, water, and sanitary sewer improvements for Phases 1 through 3 of the High School, with supporting construction administration and observation services.  HMCG also performed calculations and submitted justifications and exhibits to support project stormwater requirements for Leadership in Energy & Environmental Design (LEED) requirements.

In addition to our design team services, HMCG has provided a wide variety of services directly for the Albuquerque Public Schools (APS) though our on-call contract.  HMCG provided Boundary and Topographic Surveys of the site and offsite utility and roadway corridors to support offsite public infrastructure and on-site design.  HMCG facilitated and provided a master drainage plan, a traffic impact study, a stormwater pollution prevention plan (SWPPP), phased public onsite water line designs for metered service and fire protection, a master utility site plan, public easement documents for the water lines, and private sanitary sewer designs.  We also provided construction surveying and construction administration for the water and sewer projects.  HMCG designed, staked, and inspected the site preparation project that removed and relocated existing portable classrooms and related utilities to allow construction of the Phase 1 Next-Gen Academy, as well as coordinating and assisting in subsurface utility investigations for Phases 2 and 3.

In support of these on-site projects, HMCG is also designing the offsite roadway and deceleration lane improvements for Montgomery Boulevard, and will also be providing construction surveying and administration services for the public roadway improvements.

In addition to providing services to the Owner and Architect, HMCG was also selected by the Phase 1 and Phase 2 General Contractors to provide their construction surveying services.  HMCG is a full service surveying and civil engineering firm.
