Bernalillo High School Reconstruction

April 20, 2014 By High Mesa Admin

Public High School

This project includes 3 Phases of new infill building construction and site reconstruction at the existing Bernalillo high school that will remain operational during the entire reconstruction process.  The first Phase began construction in March of 2014 and includes site preparation, utility relocations, and construction of a new classroom building along with site vehicular and pedestrian access and parking improvements. Completion and occupation of the Phase 1 building allowed the project to continue with demolition of newly vacated buildings and construction of additional Phase 2 buildings. Completion and occupation of the Phase 2 buildings allowed demolition of the remaining site buildings followed by a new bus dropoff and additional site circulation and parking improvements. Each phase of the project included phased construction of master planned site public drainage and public water line and fire protection improvements that will benefit the entire campus. A key aspect of the project is minimizing disruption to existing campus operations while renovating the entire campus.

Through the Project Architect, High Mesa Consulting Group (HMCG) has performed a wide variety of design and phase engineering, surveying and planning services.  HMCG provided Boundary, Topographic, and Utility Surveys of the site and utility corridors to support on-site public and private design.  HMCG has provided subsurface utility consultation services including line designation, and minimally intrusive hydro-jet excavation and exploration to confirm and identify unmarked utilities for which there were no record drawings or surface evidence. The proposed utility designs are based upon the results of this subsurface utility consultation.

HMCG prepared a master drainage plan that will improve the manner in which site runoff is managed on-site, including infiltration devices to retain stormwater on site, HMCG coordinated with the Town of Bernalillo for design of phased public onsite water line and sanitary sewer plans. As part of the Project Architect’s design team, HMCG is providing a full-service range of civil engineering services including phased construction drawings for grading and drainage, paving, water, and sanitary sewer improvements with supporting construction administration and observation services.  The Phase 1 classroom building was opened for the fall 2015 semester, Phase 2 was opened for the fall 2016 semester, and Phase 3 is nearing completion in early 2017.
