High Mesa Consulting Group provided utility locating services in advance of excavating and site work to appoint 70 LED light poles throughout the campus. The campus consists primarily of customer-owned (private) utilities, and this project would impact several high profile utilities. After locating and identifying ascertainable utilities, we determined that there were several undocumented utilities on the campus’ utility maps, along with several other discrepancies such as the Fiber Optic and Gas lines that were constructed without tracer wire and not detectable using traditional utility locating methods. We met with the contractor to help determine the most utility impact prone locations and advanced the remaining pole bases using non-destructive hydro-excavation. Several locations were relocated in this process due to utility obstacles. Our original and supplemental services prevented damage to several utilities, including fiber optic cable and natural gas lines, to ensure each pole was stationed safely and efficiently.
