Major Reconstruction and Renovations at Existing Public High School
This ongoing project includes 2 Phases of new building construction, site demolition, courtyard improvements, reconstruction, and utility upgrades at an existing Albuquerque Public Schools (APS) high school. This challenging project required careful planning and phasing to maintain service and functionality at the existing school with minimal disruption. The 3-Story building constructed with the first Phase was completed in July of 2016 with associated parking, utility, vehicular and pedestrian access improvements. Phase 2 construction is underway with courtyard improvements and remaining site work, as well as renovations to existing buildings. As part of the Project Architect’s design team, HMCG has provided phased construction drawings and construction phase services including grading and drainage, paving, water, and sanitary sewer improvements.
Through our on-call professional services contracts with APS, HMCG has provided a wide variety of design and construction phase planning, surveying, engineering, and utility consultation services to support the project. HMCG provided Boundary and Topographic Surveys of the site and offsite utility and roadway corridors to support designs of public infrastructure and the on-site designs. HMCG conducted easement surveys and prepared easement survey exhibits for the public water lines. HMCG engineering services included phased public onsite water line designs for metered service and fire protection, and a master utility coordination site plan and plans for phased utility relocations, including coordination with natural gas, electric, and communications upgrades. HMCG conducted minimally invasive subsurface utility potholing investigations to confirm and determine depths of existing utilities to support designs, prepared construction plans, and provided construction staking and observation services for site utility relocation and installation projects that removed and relocated existing utilities and installed new public water and fire protections lines. HMCG is currently providing utility designation (line-spotting) services for the project as the APS on-call consultant for the New Mexico One-Call (NM811) process. The project is scheduled for completion in July of 2017.
